Local shoe store strives to guarantee homeless don't go barefoot

When you're homeless, replacing worn out shoes is an easy task to postpone, way down on the list of priorities below securing food and shelter.

But decent shoes are a bigger deal than many realize.

"What you need to think about is that many people, because they don't have any other type of transportation, their feet are it,This air max 90 is comfortable just like the others based on technology such as the Nike Shox 5 columns" said Bakersfield Homeless Center executive director Louis Gill. Tuesday,When you think of air max shoes for women, one of the first things to people's mouth is the Nike Shox Navina downtown retailer Guarantee Shoe Center is kicking off its 19th annual Shoes for the Homeless Shoe Drive.

Through May 8, donors of new and gently worn shoes can drop them off at any one of five locations in town and receive a discount on a new pair.Its simple to show off the uniqueness of your personality by trying something pleasant and striking. The drive has netted more than 40,000 pairs of shoes over its 18 years of existence, growing from 300 pairs the first year to more than 2,000 pairs last year.

The founder of the campaign is Rosco Rolnick, who owns Guarantee Shoe Center.

"I saw people with improper footwear walking the streets all the time," he said. "Their shoes were ragged, or they didn't have any shoes at all.

"This community has been good to me and my family. I wanted to give something back."

The drive is co-sponsored by Galbraith North America, which is donating a moving truck and labor to transport all the shoes to the Bakersfield Homeless Center at the end of the campaign.
